Chicken Souvlakia

When it comes to Souvla, sometimes less is more

This super simple Chicken Souvlakia recipe will leave your friends in absolute awe of your Souvla Braai.

Accessories needed:

• Flat Grill
• Souvlaki Skewers

Ingredients

FOR THE MARINADE
• 2 clove(s) of garlic
• 160g olive oil
• 5 tablespoon(s) oregano
• 140 g mustard
• 2 tablespoon(s) honey
• 24g salt
• pepper
• 100g vinegar, red wine

FOR THE CHICKEN SOUVLAKIA
• 2 onion
• 2 green bell pepper
• 2 red bell pepper
• 1kg deboned chicken thigh fillet
• 1kg chicken breast fillet
• 300g water

FOR THE TZATZIKI SAUCE
• 400 g strained yogurt
• 1 cucumber
• 1 teaspoon(s) vinegar, red wine
• salt
• pepper
• 1/2 bunch dill, finely chopped
• 1 teaspoon(s) garlic, powder

TO SERVE
• French fries
• slices bread, toasted
• slices lemon
• oregano, fresh

Instructions

Now that you have your ingredients ready, prepare a fire and make sure everyone is hungry!

For the marinade
Step 1: Firstly, use a hand grater to grate the cloves of garlic into a bowl. Next, add the olive oil, oregano, mustard, and honey, and mix them with a spoon.

Step 2: Then, add salt, pepper, and vinegar, and mix well with the spoon.

For the vegetables
Step 1: Secondly, cut the peppers into big pieces and remove their seeds.

Step 2: Coarsely chop the onion.

Step 3: Then, transfer the vegetables to the bowl with the marinade and set them aside until needed.

For the chicken
Step 1: Thirdly, put the chicken thigh and chicken breast fillets on a chopping board.

Step 2: Next, cut the chicken into big pieces, transfer them to the bowl with the vegetables and the marinade, and mix them with your hands, wearing gloves.

Step 3: In the mean time, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate it.

Step 4: Once marinaded, thread the chicken pieces onto souvlaki skewers, alternating them with the peppers and the onion.

Step 5: Use a spoon to spread the whole marinade over the chicken souvlakia and transfer it onto your souvla braai once your fire is at cooking temperature.

For the tzatziki sauce
Step 1: Put the yogurt into a bowl, grate the cucumber using the large holes of a box grater, add the garlic and the vinegar, and mix them with a spoon.

Step 2: Next, add salt, pepper, and dill, and mix well with the spoon.

TO SERVE
Serve the chicken souvlakia with potatoes, bread/pita, lemon slices, tzatziki sauce, and sprinkle with fresh oregano.
